About

I'm supposed to let you know a few things about myself on this page but I'll keep it brief as I'd rather talk thrifting...

I am Jen Smith. I have recently graduated from university with a first class degree in Writing, Fashion and Culture. I like to write and hope to do this for a living. I also like to sew, thrift and recycle things into something more beautiful. I live in Surrey with my boyfriend Tim and we are hoping to adopt a kitten soon. I have a handful of wonderful friends (check out Ellie at The Mix Kitchen Blogspot - she's one of my best friends) and I like the smell of bonfires, orchids and stars. I can do a bit of shorthand and I also like to take photos (see my writing and photography portfolio at www.jensmithfreelance.co.uk) and I always get common English phrases mixed up - you might just hear me say "put your shoe in it" instead of "put your foot in it".

Oh and generally, I don't like blogs. I don't like the self serving blogs that are void of anything unique (you know the ones that harp on about this ammmmaaazing tshirt but never really explains why its so amazing) So I have decided to give mine some direction, because I would like to blog, but in a somewhat different way. Junk Shop Jen will be about what I love: Car boot sales, vintage/pre loved clothes, sewing and crafting and a smattering of fashion if the mood so takes me.

I know (because some of my friends have said) that car boot sales are either daunting or don't come up with the goods. I'd like to assure anyone who reads my blog that they needn't be scary, in fact they are fun! Most of the time you will find something, but you need to know what to look out for.I will pop up pictures of my weekly finds when scavenging my usual haunts with prices and haggling tips and tell you about any odd characters I meet along the way, all in the name of pre-love!

I am a self taught sewer and crafter and love creating and making beautiful things. Sometimes they have a purpose (like my shabby chic bed quilts) sometimes they don't (like my sequined animal heads) but it makes me happy and I would like to share that side of me with you and maybe teach you a few things along the way.

I often sell some of my thrifted items and I also sell some of my sewing and crafts so check out my Etsy page for more details of how to buy your own little piece of Junk Shop Jen.

I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoy making it.

Love Jen x
